A DJ set is more than a playlist

The design questions behind DJAI: compatibility, energy, and the shape of a set.

A sequence has a shape

Two tracks can work well on their own and still make an awkward transition. A set has relationships between tracks, and it has a longer arc. That makes it an interesting planning problem.

Turn taste into explicit choices

DJAI’s foundational design describes tempo, harmonic fit, phrase alignment, energy changes, and vocal overlap as constraints. A mood description can guide the plan, but the transitions still need reasons.

Start with something inspectable

An ordered set plan is a useful first output: which tracks go together, where a transition belongs, and why. It can be examined before attempting a rendered mix. This keeps the planning problem separate from audio processing.

What exists today

DJAI currently contains foundational knowledge and design rules. Library ingestion, a working planner, and audio rendering are future implementation work. The appeal is exploring how a creative process can remain understandable when expressed as a system.
